Healthy Eating

At West Acton Primary we pride ourselves on ensuring our children have a healthy diet whilst at school. We first achieved Healthy Schools Accreditation from the Ealing Borough in 2004 and continue to uphold this accreditation which demonstrates our commitment to promoting healthy choices for children. to help enforce this we have teamed up with the following suppliers:

The fruit and Vegetable Scheme

The UK's fruit and vegetable scheme which was established in 2004 is part of the 5 A DAY programme to increase fruit and vegetable consumption. Under the scheme, children in Nursery, Reception, Years 1 and 2 get a free piece of fruit or vegetable every day at school supplied by Minor Weir and Willis Limited.

The Milk Scheme

Milk is supplied by Cool Milk; children under the age of 5 are entitled to free milk with subsidised milk for those over 5 years old.

Are you entitled to Free School Meals?

Did you know that the school receives additional money for every child registered as entitled to free school meals, even if your child doesn't actually eat a school meal at school?

When you successfully apply for free school meals the school will receive an extra £600 of government funding even if your child does not want the meal. This additional funding (known as Pupil Premium) will be used to help children from lower income families do their very best at school. Please also be aware that if your family is registered for free school meals you may be eligible to claim other forms of assistance, for instance with home to school transport.

To find out more or apply for free school meals please contact the school office or click here.

Packed Lunches

Children may bring a packed lunch in an unbreakable container, which has your child’s name on it (no cans or glass bottles please). Packed lunches should provide a healthy well balanced meal. Sweets, chocolates and fizzy drinks are not permitted. Children should also be provided with a healthy drink for meal times.

We are a  SILVER Level Healthy School with SUGAR SMART STATUS - please see our FOOD POLICY and PACKED LUNCH POLICY.

Sweets and Treats must not be brought into school, even on your child's birthday. Thank you.
